Holiday "Adopt-A-Family" Program

Every holiday season Suffolk County Lodge #124 participates in an "Adopt-A-Family" program.  Working with "A Mother's Kiss" organization, 2 families with children suffering from cancer are selected and the Lodge tries to brighten their life by visiting the family with not only a host of donations, but also an outpouring of love and concern.

The Adopt-A-Family program is led by Committee Chairman James Fitzpatrick and a team of highly dedicated and compassionate members.  Although they are responsible for coordinating and administering to this program it would not be possible without you, the member, and your selfless donations.  For that we, and the program recipients, are ever grateful.

2011 "Holiday Adopt-A-Family" Program

On Friday, November 18th, we received information from "A Mother's Kiss" organization about 2 families in need for the holidays.  Through your generous donations Lodge #124 collected $1750 in cash and gift cards plus many donated gift items.

On Saturday, December 10th, 2011 Team Leaders Jim Fitzpatrick and Andy Kunz, along with a host of other volunteers (including their children), delivered your donations to the families.

The following is a brief description of the 2 families we adopted for 2011:

2011 Adopt-A-Family  -  Central Islip Family

This family involved a 9 year old boy, Zechariah McDowell, who unfortunately succumbed to his cancer within hours of our notification.  Zechariah lived with his brother Prince (12 years old) and mother Pamela.  The grief and sorrow of the loss of Zechariah did not eliminate the needs of the family and with their consent we were able to bring a little Christmas spirit into their lives.

2011 Adopt-A-Family  -  Amityville Family

This family involved a 3 year old boy, Brian Jackson, who has Wilms Tumor (a kidney cancer in children) and has a lot of issues from "shaken baby syndrome".  A wonderful person, Valerie Jackson, knowing what was wrong with him adopted both him and his 3 year old half-sister, Jaylia.

A Message from Chairman Jim Fitzpatrick

Thank you in advance for the generosity I know you will show and for the past 2 years we have done this~  Jim Fitz
